Nostalgia…Childhood Lives On

There are many things that can trigger those childhood memories.  A song, a phrase, a piece of clothing or… a toy.

Last night I enjoyed a perfect summer evening at the movies with my kids.  I knew Toy Story 3 would be good….maybe even great, but I had no idea that beyond laughing at the constant creativity and humorous lines, I was actually moved to misty eyes!

Thankfully, our SpMoms readers have my back, and after making a post on our fan page, several readers admitted that they cried at TS3 too?!

Why?  Nostalgia!  We all have those special toys that brought us hours of creative play, unconditional love, and the ability to make us feel loved, comforted, and safe.  I don’t want to give away anything in the movie, but I will tell you that when it’s over, you may have a harder time clearing out the toy clutter in your home!

My kids and I agreed that we are going to set up a toy display now and take a photo to document the whole crew, knowing that we realistically can’t save them all!  But, the special chosen ones…will remain forever in our hearts and in the keepsake box.

I just recently pulled out my teenage son’s TOY STORY gear. Woody and Buzz…even Bull’s Eye. Bull’s Eye was still riding like the wind! I have the name tag badges from his 4th birthday and the laminated Pin the Badge on the Woody poster I created for the party, too! They have all of their sounds and were looking good until he had friends over and somehow, Buzz’s head and leg have become detached. I tried to explain how long I had kept them and why…they were his favorites. I think I am more attached to them. Oh well, his younger sisters are enjoying playing with them now.

So true…big baby brought back visions of “ginger” who was a lot smaller but same idea. I stuck with her despite her losing fingers and 1/2 a leg, plus the other foot, to the babysitter’s dog. She is still in a box in my basement, disintegrating as we speak, but I won’t throw her out.
