Webkinz Addiction Hits Our Home

Last year, Springfield Dad and Springfield Moms Soccer Coach Bill Eves wrote a great article about Webkinz and his addiction to help his daughter earn extra points, cash and tokens, etc.

Thankfully, at the time, my daughter’s didn’t own any yet.  We’d pass by the displays in the stores.  The kids would cheer “Webkinz!, they are so cute!”  I would say, “keep moving!”

webkinzBut, there are certain times when you can no longer escape the powerful trends of pop culture.  At my 7 year-old (Amanda’s) recent birthday party, she received an adorable guinea pig Webkinz (pictured).  She quickly named her “Jellybean.”

And so the addiction at our house begins…

Amanda is setting up the room, playing numerous games in the arcade accumulating Kinzcash, points and tokens!  When she wakes up, she asks “Can I go on Webkinz?”  Before bedtime, she asks “Can I go on Webkinz?”

Her little sister is watching all of this go on, so she scours her room for the Webkinz she received as a gift more than a year ago. We break open the secret code and get “Rosa” the lion registered, print the birth certificate, and we’re off.

Now I just have to hope that I don’t get involved in helping them earn extra points as well!  With Facebook, twitter, my blog and the main website, my computer screen time is maxed out as it is.  But, there is one final bonus to this new addiction.  If they misbehave (okay, when they misbehave), I have a new “favorite” item to pull away!
