The Simple Joys of a Staycation

Well, yes, I would prefer a Disney cruise, but it’s not in the cards at this time! So, we’re saving a lot of cash, gas and travel time and seizing the moment with our mini-staycation for a few days this week!

For my kids ages 7 and 9, this was something they are really enjoying! They love having unscheduled days start to finish, as do I, so we’re lingering in bed, playing with the dog, playing board games, and due to the heat index going outside only if we have access to a hose or a pool!

Some of our highlights include:

  • Washing the cars in the driveway 🙂 with many water hose fights
  • Laying in bed laughing and watching our favorite shows
  • Aimless shopping at our favorite places
  • Dining out 🙂 !!

Just because it’s a staycation doesn’t mean I wanted to spend time in the grocery store or much time in the kitchen!

Now if someone would kindly wash our towels and sheets everyday, that would be perfection! Oh yes, and if someone could of thrown into the trash the nasty dead mouse I found in the garage, that sure would have saved some drama as well.

I did find myself doing some typical house chores even thought I was trying to act like I was on vacation. I realized that for parents, there really is no complete vacation unless you get out of your day to day surroundings! It’s just our nature to keep on doing things for the family.

So, next year, we are getting out of here for sure! But, the money we saved this summer will come in very handy.

Stay cool this weekend!
