The Little Things

In the past week, there have been several things my kids have said or have done that reminded me why kids are so full of optimism and passion that we grown-ups can learn from!

Being a “kid at heart” is, in my opinion, a very positive quality! Your days will be filled with more laughter, less stress…more teamwork, more sense of belonging and overall more appreciation for what’s going on all around you.

Examples from last week:

  • When I returned from an out-of-town work trip, they RAN across the room to greet me and JUMPED into my arms. Nothing can top this feeling!  Kids express themselves openly with ease.
  • The first snow day, they immediately asked for their snow pants and boots and played outside without one complaint of the cold.  PURE fun, PURE energy!
  • My daughter was THRILLED on her half-birthday…she wanted to celebrate, so of course, who could turn that down?  A half a year older (and wiser) is a great accomplishment
  • Playing Yahtzee and enjoying the ups and downs of the luck of the dice. Simple quality family time.
  • Doing online research for a topic they learned about in school. I love how they help us rediscover topics we think we KNOW, but there’s always more to learn.

It’s these sorts of things that add so much meaning to our daily lives of parenting.  Kids have a different (and I think better) perspective than us, and it’s so important to help  keep us young at heart and on the right track.
