Happy Mother’s Day!

mom_meWhile expecting my first child, I will admit I was a bit nervous  about becoming a mom.  Several of my friends had done so before me, and I just didn’t understand what they were going through.  I was the business professional traveling all of the time and enjoying single life.  When we would talk on the phone, they would abruptly say: “I have to go, Will is having a meltdown!” Click!

When I came to visit them, I was so excited to see their new babies, but a little uneasy to hold them.   I was afraid I wouldn’t support their head right or they’d start crying in my arms; it just didn’t feel natural to me.  Thankfully, all of those fears went away the moment I held my own first-born, Amanda.

From that day on, my life has been filled with adventure.

My mom (pictured above with me) gave me a beautiful book The Gift of Motherhood by Cherie Carter-Scott on the day Amanda was born.   I highly recommend this book for new moms or any mom.  The author shares 10 Truths for Every Mother.

Here are a few of my favorites:

1.  Nurturing your child includes supporting what is unique and special about them.  I had no idea our children could be so different from us!

2.  As your child grows, so will you.

3.  There will be highs and lows, but the precious moments make it all worthwhile.

4.  There is no such thing as a perfect mother.  The best you can do is your best!

5.  Motherhood is a journey that never ends!  Children will grow up.  However, you remain a parent forever.  What a blessing!

Wishing you all a wonderful day surrounded by those you love and who love and appreciate YOU! Thanks to all of the moms, grandmas, and mother-in-laws in our lives!
