First Day of School Frenzy!

first day of schoolWe all survived the first day of school frenzy!  The amount of parents and grandparents armed with cell phones, cameras and video cameras swarming area elementary schools was quite the scene.  It’s certainly a timeless tradition!  The first day of school outfit, backpack, new folders and lunch box … some things never change.

A few area schools will start in a week or so, but most of our readers’ families are officially back to school. Check out our weekly poll “What Do You Think?” on the home page where you can weigh in on how “Back To School” is going over at your house!

In ours, my “baby” is now officially a full-time school kid. Her first day of kindergarten was a great success.  From wearing her backpack around the house for at least an hour before the bus came, to jumping up and down in pure delight when her bus pulled up … she was ready to roll!

When the bus returned at the end of the day, the first words out of her mouth were “Mommy! I made new friends!” And so, the fabulous journey of kindergarten begins.

My second-grader was very matter of fact in her approach to the first day of school.  “Mom, I can’t wait for school. I can’t wait to learn!” It’s been fun to see all of the comments and photos from area families sharing the many Kodak moments that surround the first day of school milestone for all. The photo above shows my Dad who stopped by to give “Grandpa” hugs before the big day!

For me, the first day of school means a new routine for my work.  Six hours of uninterrupted time for productivity!  Lunch with friends or business contacts is now a breeze!  It’s been seven years in the making, but I can now get the bulk of my work done in the daylight hours.

Although, no one documented my first work at home day with a camera or video, you can be certain I was beaming with pride and a big smile!  Milestones all around.
