Event Details

The Springfield Youth Performance Group (SYPG), an organization spotlighting young talent from the Springfield area, is presenting Books on Stage, a colorful, energetic children’s ballet, on November 23, 2019, at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. and November 24, 2019, at 3 p.m. at Hoogland Center for the Arts, Theatre Three.

This hour-long child-friendly show is a great introduction to the performing arts for young children. See beloved children’s literature brought to life through music and movement with works from Emily Winfield Martin, Chris Van Allsburg, Munro Leaf and Louisa May Alcott. Watch as your favorite characters leap off the page and onto the stage!

“Books on Stage is an ideal production to appeal to all ages,” said SYPG artistic director Caitlin Helton Scherer, the artistic director of this presentation. “Younger kids will love all of the colorful characters and costumes, while older children and adults can really appreciate the subtlety of the storylines and the artistry of the performers.”

Prior to the show, there will be free, interactive activities for the children outside of Theatre Three. John Jamison, local author, educator and speaker, will join us for book signings and storytelling. Never Take a Skwerdlock to the Doctor is the latest children’s book published by Pops Jamison. With beautiful and whimsical illustrations, the book is inspiring with a playful storyline and a great message.

General admission tickets are only $8 and may be purchased at the Hoogland Center for the Arts box office or are available in advance by calling 217-523-2787 or by ordering online at www.hcfta.org.
