Celebrating Birthdays in a Quarantine Age

Birthday parties have certainly changed as we stay safe!

Social distancing and shelter-in-place doesn’t mean your kids can’t celebrate with grandparents and extended family. Love the family pet peeking out the window in the birthday parade as well.

Idea #1 Thanks to Springfield parents Barton and Jenette for sharing photos of Maya’s 2nd birthday. All of the grandparents and aunts and uncles sang via video chat, led by Maya’s 5-year-old sister Robin.
Zoom birthday party celebrations are great for kids of any age. We did one for our stepson and it was the first time all of the extended family have gathered together virtually; a great milestone that we all enjoyed!
Idea #2
Increasingly, birthday greetings are celebrated with drive-by “parties”!
Thanks to Amy for sharing her posters used for a recent celebration. Chatham mom Lisa’s family was part of a big “birthday parade” of cars to celebrate a 12-year-old boy’s birthday. He loves Disney, so Lisa’s family dressed in Mickey ears and held out stuffed Mickeys to wave!
Idea # 3 Ding, Dong, Ditch: Others have been leaving treats on the porch of their friends’ home with cards and notes of celebrations. Whatever method you choose, the birthday honoree feels special!
