Neutering or Spaying Your Pet

catYou’ve brought that cute little kitten or puppy home and are enjoying getting to know him. Even though it’s fun for all, the first year can also be expensive! Between the regular checkups, vaccinations and first grooming experiences, it all adds up. But there’s one more thing to remember – making sure your pet is spayed or neutered.

It is recommended that pets are spayed or neutered between 4-6 months of age. While you can have the procedure performed at any age, it is more easy for the pet to recover if it is done earlier.

Discounted spay/neuter procedures are also performed at the Animal Protective League of Springfield.

Here are some of the benefits of the procedures:

  • Unwanted pregnancies/puppies
  • Mammary or testicular tumors
  • Aggressiveness
  • Uterine infections
  • Prostate gland disease
  • Marking territorydog

Consult with your vet to find out more about their recommendations.
