Navigating a New Cast

How can you help your child navigate the world with a cast?  Springfield Moms give this advice:

  • Make sure they wear short sleeves. – Kristen M.
  • Encourage your other child(ren) to give special assistance to their sibling during this time. – Ginalyn G.
  • Tank tops and sweats for clothes (easier to pull up one handed for the bathroom). Ask a best friend to help out — carrying the backpack, lunch tray, etc. Sometimes a teacher will assign less homework, if the child broke his/her dominant hand. – Sarah C.
  • Talk to the teacher. He/She will know what special assistance will be needed. – Susanne O.
  • Notify the school’s nurse. – Kelly S.
  • Be sure your child gets extra assistance in the lunch room. For school lunches, your child will need help carrying the tray. For packed lunches, your child will need assistance opening containers and packages. – Sarah G.
