You won’t BEE-lieve what’s new at Kidzeum!

Bees_Butterflies_Blooms_KidzeumSpring is here, and that means warm weather, beautiful blooming flowers and many of our tiny insect and animal friends! Some of these little critters, particularly bees and wasps, may seem scary to some, but don’t “bee” afraid! They are actually an integral part of our ecosystem.

Kidzeum of Health and Science, located in downtown Springfield, is introducing an exciting new way for kids to get up close and personal with some of these pollinators and have fun learning in the process! The museum’s new exhibit, Bees, Butterflies & Blooms, opens today and will run all summer though early August.

animatronic_butterfly_kidzeumThe exhibit includes an observation beehive, live butterfly enclosure, pollinator garden and many family-friendly play stations. In addition to checking out the live bees and butterflies, kids also have the opportunity to try on a beekeeper suit, make a robotic butterfly move and do the waggle dance like a honey bee, among numerous other learning activities.

Bees, Butterflies & Blooms has been a community effort, with support and sponsorships from the MG Nelson Foundation (presenting sponsor), Ace Sign Company, Kumon Math & Reading Center, Maldaner’s Restaurant, the Liberman Family and others.

The new exhibit is kicking off today with an opening celebration, featuring many special, kid-friendly activities. Bees, Butterflies & Blooms will only remain at Kidzeum until August 5th, so come see it before it flies away!

Kidzeum of Health & Science is located in downtown Springfield at 412 E. Adams St. and is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 – 5 p.m.
