We had a great time enjoying all of our traditions at the Illinois State Fair this past weekend. The Giant Slide was a great way to kick things off followed by paying $1 to feed the white camel, goats, cows and a buffalo. We enjoyed Wii and ice cold water at the Lt. Governor’s tent and learned about the canoe/kayak options nearby.
Dizzy Hips wowed us with his hula hoop skills, the hi-dive show was great, and we had a relaxing ride on the Sky Glider across the fair. With the first day of school lingering in the back of my mind, it was really nice to savor the last few days of summer with the kids….no schedule, no routine, lots of fun.
The most empowering part of our visit though was when I redeemed my value as Mom and parent in the carnival games area. In the sea of games where you spend $3 and walk away with nothing, we were getting a bit frustrated watching the dollars go into a black hole. Fortunately, Whack a Mole was next in line, and I offered to show off my skills and try to win the Smurfette doll. 150 points…winner! Yes, I jumped up and down and my girls were so excited (as was I!)
Every time I see Smurfette or am having a bad parenting moment, I remember that I can still hit every mole that pops out with ultimate precision so I’m still needed around here…LOL.
Have a great week!
loved this!!
Kim, you should have stopped in and had the girls play at the Frog Pond across from the Giant Slide. It was only $3 a game or 2 kids could play for $5 and everyone wins a great prize of their choice every time!! Look for us next year!
