Is your baby teething or do they have an ear infection? You may assume that when your baby starts tugging on their ear that they have an ear infection. But it isn’t as simple as that. A lot of times babies will tug on their ears when they are teething. Doctors say that teething involves fussiness without any cold symptoms or fever. However, every single one of my kids has run a low grade temp while teething. However, here are some signs that it could be more than just teething.
- A fever of 101 to 102 (Sometimes an ear infection will not have a fever at all)
- Cold like symptoms
- Waking more frequently
- Unwilling to lie on their back.
- Ear Drainage. Sometimes you will even see blood. Which is a sign the ear drum has ruptured. Typically the ear will heal fine after you seek medical attention. The pain usually subsides after the ear drum ruptures.
Remember to always check with your doctor when in doubt.
