Self-Care Getaway in St. Louis

Recently, I was in deep need for having some time away for “me time.” Here’s what I did with a 30-hour getaway to St. Louis.

Lunch al Fresco  Mission Taco Joint has AMAZING tacos. They have fresh salsa and make their own corn tortillas. The outdoor street seating at their Delmar Loop location is my favorite, but the indoor seating options also are fun, especially if you need some icy cold air conditioning.  If you have a designated driver or you use a driving service like Uber or Lyft, enjoy their tasty drinks, too.

Poolside afternoon  I have a couple favorite places to stay in St. Louis, but my favorite is The Cheshire. It has the feel of a European inn, and although you’ll see families here, it’s not the same vibe as you’d have in a typical chain hotel. The hotel envelops three sides of the pool, and that offers poolside choices of shade or full sun…or even a cabana! Drinks and food available at an outdoor bar or just indoors at the Fox & Hounds tavern. For this trip, I splurged on a poolside room–weekday rates made it affordable.

Evening dinner  For solo getaways, a hotel with nearby or on-site dining makes things easy. At The Cheshire, there are a three restaurants on property, plus a Starbucks. I enjoyed an heirloom tomato salad at Basso. They have a professional staff, delicious food, great ambiance–and it’s completely comfortable to eat alone.

Evening poolside  To me, there’s not much more relaxing than reading outdoors at night. There are two movie theaters within walking distance, too.

Daytime adventures  The Cheshire has bicycles and kites available for guests to borrow. It’s a quick .2 mile walk or bike ride to Forest Park. No need to battle the crazy parking in the park! Or, if you’re like me, you’d prefer more pool time. Go for it!

Lunch before going home  I like to explore different parts of St. Louis every time I get a chance. On this trip, I visited the Demun neighborhood just west of Forest Park and enjoyed another outdoor lunch, this time at Sasha’s Wine Bar. My favorite part — they also sell organic handmade dog treats. Although I went home empty handed for the humans in my family, the dog got some delicious and nutritious treats! After lunch, I small-batch ice cream at Clementine’s Naughty & Nice Creamery.
