Distance running can be a lonely endeavor. A lot of time is spent pounding out mile after mile by yourself with only your thoughts to keep you company. There is one running event, however, where that isn’t the case. When you put the miles in for the annual RUN UNITED 5k & Kids Fun Run, you have an entire community running step-for-step with you.
For the 8th consecutive year, BUNN is hosting the RUN UNITED 5k & Kids Fun Run. This year the community event will be Saturday, August 3, as scenic Washington Park provides a gorgeous and challenging course for runners of all ages and skill levels. As in the past, there will also be plenty of non-race activities for everyone including music, a bounce house, balloon art, face painting, and more.
For BUNN, Run United is more than just a 5k race; it’s an opportunity to organize a family-friendly community event while helping the numerous nonprofit programs making the Springfield area a better place to live for everyone. We strive to have an event in which every person who takes part has fun and walks away a winner. Organizing a 5k and Kids Fun Run offers both while helping the United Way’s Community Fund provide a way to help agencies throughout our community.
United Way’s Community Fund is unique in that it provides support to local nonprofit programs addressing multiple needs throughout our area. It offers us the opportunity to not only support a worthwhile cause, but to change lives through multiple programs working collaboratively to improve our community. Every dollar raised through Run United goes directly to local programs.
It is this very reason that runners will not only find United Way staff & volunteers at the race on August 3, but also staff and volunteers representing a wide array of organizations. Run United, just like United Way, brings our community together, because together we are stronger…because together we are better…because we are Better United.
We invite you to join us at Washington Park on August 3, as our friends, coworkers, neighbors, local nonprofits, and their clients gather to RUN UNITED. The 5K will open the festivities at 8 a.m. sharp with a Kids Run to follow at 9 a.m. Race registration is affordable with participants receiving a race shirt and a medal at the finish line (shirt not guaranteed for late registrants).
Because RUN UNITED is a community event, The United Way and our sponsors want every child to have the opportunity to participate. Therefore, if you have a child receiving services at a United Way member agency, please contact that agency for a discount for agency clients.
The past seven RUN UNITED events have been extremely successful in raising over $35,000, which has all stayed local. We hope you will help make this year an even greater success. You can register for Run United at springfieldunitedway.org. or bunn.com/rununited
