Make Every Day Count

In light of the terrible tragedy in Newtown CT, my eight year-old wrote a book as her way of processing and understanding what happened on December 14, 2012.  She called her book: The saddest day.  She shared this story on her new blog: www.vanessacares.org.  I didn’t upload every page of the book, but I did have her read it to our SpMoms Writer’s Group Brunch that was held the day after the shooting.  Her story showed kids sitting in their classrooms anxious to learn and excited about Christmas. It expressed the fear of the parents as they rushed to the school.  The extreme sadness they felt when they found out their children did not survive.  The bravery of the teachers and helpers.   Despite the saddenss throughout, I was so pleased when she was able to find a glimpse of hope in this tragedy.  So her advice to all of us:  Make Every Day in Life Count because you never know what will happen.  If we can all life this way; every day will have special meaning.  I know every parent pauses a moment now when they kiss, hug and wave goodbye to their kids at the bus stop or anywhere really.

The words of a young child are powerful and peaceful in this time of sadness.  Thank you Vanessa, for sharing your story.  All of us at Springfield Moms wish everyone a peaceful, happy, healthy new year.  Special prayers of comfort to all of the families in Newtown CT.  We send our hope for healing.
