“Logic will take you from A to B. Imagination can take you anywhere!” Albert Einstein.
Yesterday was a big day. My “baby” graduated from PreK and will ride the bus to kindergarten this fall. Those of you who have attended preschool ceremonies and special performances know the level of entertainment is high.
Watching the preschoolers and their honest expressions, emotions and body language during these “formal” gatherings is part comedy, part sentimental moments, but classic fun nonetheless.
The kids squirimed on stage, waved to their parents, escaped to the emergency exits for a potty break, all while the paparazzi of family photographers documented every moment.
My favorite part is always when the kids are asked “What would you like to be when you grow-up?” Here are some of their answers: astronaut, doctor, veterinarian (about 6 of them in a row!), a swimmer, ballerina, and my favorite, a “strike bowler” (as opposed to a gutter ball bowler!). I asked his mom afterwards to elaborate on this career path, and she professed he is a wiz at Wii bowling. (I then directed her to the free bowling pass post on my blog yesterday.)
Above all, I love their honest and untainted view of the future. The quote at the start says it all: we have to foster their imagination at every step. The book “Dream Big” featuring the darling illustrations of Olivia is a wonderful compilation of quotes from everyone including John Lennon to Walt Disney. I presented this to Vanessa at our celebration lunch.
This book is just as inspiring to me at age 38 as it is to my daughter at age 5; it’s never too late to Dream Big!
After all, “Life is a ticket to the greatest show on Earth.” Martin H. Fischer.
