My favorite tradition at SpringfieldMoms.org is our annual, now 7th Annual Kids Costume Contest at the Halloween at the Market. Boy has this grown over the years! We now average more than 200 entries in this popular and fun family tradition. Please join us the last Saturday in October, the 29th this year, for the contest and enjoy the farmer’s market vendors, live music and free entertainment. It’s a tradition not to be missed!
I’m not the most creative mom when it comes to costumes, and I’m also not very handy with a needle and thread or hot glue gun, but I’m always amazed at the costumes that come across the stage! My favorites over the past years are the Special Edition Holiday Barbie in the box, the boy in the toilet, the lobster in the pot, the vending machine, the hot air balloon and the UPS truck and driver. There are so many more though…it’s a great time to watch the kids having fun as they parade across stage!
For the serious costume contest contenders, just browse our photo gallery’s of prior years to see the variety of entries! We have three age groups in the contest: ages 0-2, 3- 6 and 7-12. There are THREE winners per age group and an overall winner as well. Prizes are graciously provided by St. John’s Children’s Hospital. Registration is from 9:30-11 and the contest starts at 11:00. We start with the youngest group first.
