And She Waits…

We were thrilled when a busy momma robin chose our fence post in the backyard as the perfect place to build her nest and lay four perfectly blue robin eggs.

It’s brought much excitement and discussion at our house.  We watch her as she sits…and waits…and keeps her eggs warm.  The daddy robin is always within our view a yard or two away, keeping an eye or sometimes giving her a break to fly away for 5-10 minutes.

The onslaught of questions from my girls were over my head, so I Googled to ask the inevitable: “How long does it take for a robin’s egg to hatch?”

Within seconds, I have multiple choices of websites with answers.  Now which site is 100% accurate, I do not know, but we sure enjoyed how in an instant, we had answers!

In case you have a family of robins waiting to hatch in your neighborhood, this website had a lot of interesting follow-up. Robin’s Journey North.

We expect she will sit on her nest for about 14 days.  So, the countdown has begun and it will be just a few days when the tiny little birds make their way out.  We’ll keep you posted – the camera is ready!

UPDATE!  They are HERE!  Begging for food from my iPhone camera!
