You know those special moments when your impact as a parent, molding and shaping another person, hits you over the head? I had one of those this past weekend. It was a great opportunity to talk, one of those heartfelt conversations with our kids when their ears and their hearts are open to everything we say. It was the night before my daughter would move from mom’s house to dad’s house for the week.
She came out from her bedroom and said “Mommy, I will miss you this week.” She was calm and assured; she was just stating how she felt. She loves spending time with her Dad…so it had nothing to do with not wanting to go. It was a kind and simple gesture for her to let ME know that I would be missed. And then, she wrapped her arms around me.
I burst into tears!
“I miss you too, honey, and I can’t tell you how special it makes me feel to know that you are thinking of me when I’m not with you. You are always on my mind whether I am with you or not.” We then talked in more detail about how things were going at home, at school and just general silly talk. It was awesome!
Wow! Kids just blow us away with their ability to zoom into our feelings and reassure us when needed.
This is a moment I will never forget.
Oh too sweet! What a lovely blog–very helpful for your community. I’ll share it with families I meet in Springfield during our travels there!
