Travel Tips for Families Going to Walt Disney World
- Bring a large backpack to pack the essentials your family will want handy. Drawstring bags don’t hold enough, and you’ll want separate compartments for water, ponchos, etc.
- Leave your wallet in your hotel room if you’ve purchased a Magic Band. What a genius invention that is…it knows almost more about us than we do!
- However, DO bring things that you might need in case of emergency, like insurance cards.
- Bring your ponchos every day if you’re going in the summer! It’s much better than getting soaked and walking around with squishy feet! Water rides like Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids are fun in the winter, but ponchos come in handy then, too, so that your clothes aren’t wet and leaving you chilly all day!
- Bring bottles of water to refill around the park at water fountains or request cups of water. It’s free at counter service restaurants. NOTE: As of May 2019, loose ice is not allowed in the parks.
- Priorities. You life is more valuable than your cell phone! One girl dropped her cell phone into the track while boarding at Space Mountain and immediately climbed out of her car and reached her hand down into the track! She was so lucky the car didn’t move forward as the attendants aren’t expecting people to be doing things like that… In a split second she could have lost her hand. Yes she was crying and her cell phone may be gone or broken, but tell your kids if that happens …seriously, let it go!
- If you think your child might be too old to use a stroller, think of the worst case scenario. Meltdowns happen, and sometimes kids just need a quiet place to cool down! NOTE: In May 2019, Disney World changed its stroller policy. Now, strollers can’t be any larger than 31″ wide and 52″ long. Wagons are not permitted.
