The heartbreaking images of suffering and death coming from Haiti can be overwhelming for us as adults and for our children who view the newscasts and newspaper photos of the devastation.
There are many people in our area who have traveled to Haiti to help with schools, clinics and churches over the years. You can become one who helps now in this time of even greater human need.
Consider making a donation to the American Red Cross, which has people on the ground right now working to improve the situation for thousands of survivors. You can donate through our Central Illinois chapter. Details below:
- Donate by Phone with credit/debit cards. Call 787-7602 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays or leave a message after hours and we'll return your call the following business day.
- Donate by Mail. Send check or money order to: American Red Cross, Illinois Capital Area Chapter. 1045 Outer Park Dr. P.O. Box 1058, Springfield, IL 62704.
- Donate by Text: Text the word "Haiti" to 90999 and a donation of $10 will be made to the American Red Cross for victims of the earthquake in Haiti. They've raised more than $5 million through this quick and easy campaign…amazing!

The State Journal-Register also listed a number of other local organizations who could use your help in person putting together health kits to send to Haiti. Read article here.
Even though the need seems so overwhelming, never underestimate what we can do, each of us, to help.
