When You Grow Up…Tweening Tips

amanda_mommy_april-2009

I found this vintage blog from 2014 and for those of you with tweens, you will relate!

My favorite line from an episode of The Goldbergs from the mother to the teenage daughter “One day you’ll have a daughter of your own not to trust…”

How true is this statement?  It doesn’t matter if you’re a child of the 80’s, 90’s or raising a child of the ’00’s; this will be a timeless challenge.

This episode was particularly funny because the mom was snooping into her diary and trying to get insight into her daughter’s life.  Meanwhile, the daughter was writing lies in there just to test if her mom was snooping on her.  Ah, the vicious cycle of the lack of trust.  In 2014 I was on the cusp of raising two teenage girls, yearning to stay in the age 10-12  zone for much longer.  I would see little bursts of the teenage hormones and uber-confidence bursting through from time to time; it was frightening!

I knew the most important thing was to keep a sense of humor.

So, I borrow the quote from Mrs. Goldberg a lot: “One day you” have….(fill in the blank, “a kid who never cleans their room, a kid who yells at their parents, a picky eater,  LOL).

Take a deep breath and know that the other infamous phrase of “I blinked” is so true. Now that we’re in 2023, I blinked and my girls are in college!
