A party like this only comes around once every 200 years!
This year's Taste of Downtown and American Music Show will join the Capital City Bicentennial Celebration, Friday, July 3 (5:00 p.m. – Midnight) and Saturday, July 4, 2009 (11:00 a.m. – Midnight)
This free, family oriented event continues the year long celebration of Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday.
The event will kick-off in style at 5:00 p.m., July 3 with Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln traveling by horse-drawn carriage from the Lincoln Home to the Old State Capitol, where they will be greeted and joined on stage by Springfield
Mayor Timothy J. Davlin, officially opening the festival.
July 4th: Taste of Downtown and Bicentennial Commission Kids Area.
FREE Kid's Activities all day! 11:00 – 4:00 p.m. Springfield Moms is managing the Kids Area providing free activities on the Old State Capitol Lawn along with St. John's Children's Hospital and other regional groups.
We are also hosting an Abe or Mary Todd Lincoln Look Alike Contest on the Entertainment Stage from 12:45-1:15 p.m. for Ages 0-3, 4-7 and 8-12. One winner in each age group. Prizes include a $50 savings account from Marine Bank and a gift card from St. John's Children's Hospital. Be creative!

Festivities include a wide variety of fun filled and educational Lincoln-era and
contemporary family entertainment, children's games and activities, laser show, Radio
Disney, period artisan demonstrations, a children's Abe-Look-A-Like Contest, Ice-
Cream Social, Strawberry Party, and spectacular fireworks presented in cooperation
by the Illinois Bureau of Tourism, Downtown Springfield Incorporated, Springfield
Jaycees, City of Springfield, Springfield Convention & Visitor's Bureau,
Springfieldmoms.org and the Illinois Secretary of State.
The Old State Capitol, Lincoln Herndon Law Office, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum, Lincoln Home National Historic Site, The Illinois State Museum, and Elijah Iles House will be open to
visitors and offer special attractions and programs.
