Share Your YMCA Memories and a Donation is Made in Your Name

I'm excited to feature the Strong Kids Campaign for the Springfield YMCA!  If you grew up in this area, you are very likely to have a childhood memory attached to the YMCA.  For me, it was playing soccer around age 6  I would guess.  I was the one kicking the ball the wrong way and driving the more competitive players on the team crazy.  But, I smiled big (with a missing front tooth) in my team picture, and remember having a lot of fun!

The YMCA has been a pillar in the community for 136 years,  and they want to hear your Y story.

Did you learn to swim at the Y, attend summer camp or play soccer?

Share how the Y has positively impacted you or your family on their Facebook page. A longtime Y member and prominent lawyer in Springfield will donate $1 toward our Strong Kids Campaign for each positive impact Y story shared on the Springfield YMCA’s Facebook page.

The Strong Kids Campaign ensures that all children can participate in Y programs regardless of  their ability to pay. In 2010, they provided 1,836 youth scholarship memberships and 219 summer camp scholarship weeks to underprivileged youth.

Share your story through June 15 for a donation to be made on your behalf.   Linda Shanklin, mother of Andre Iguodala, kicks off the launch of this campaign today at 9:00 a.m.
