Recruit the Kids for Rice Krispies Treats (The Original)

Thank you to Kari Thevenot for submitting this recipe from www.ricekrispies.com.

Editor’s note: we have added a glass of milk and considered this traditional treat a breakfast on the go when times get desperate!  Mmmm…good!  Plus, one Dad added chocolate icing to the Rice Krispie treats, which elicited squeals of delight from the chocolate lovers in the family.

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp. margarine
  • 1 package regular marshmallows or 4 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 6 cups of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal
  • Vegetable oil cooking spray

Melt margarine in large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.

Add cereal. Stir until well coated.

Using a buttered spatula or waxed paper, press mixture evenly into a 13x9x2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cut into 2×2-inch squares when cool.

NOTE: Use fresh marshmallows for best result. Also, miniature marshmallows will melt faster than the regular ones.

MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS: Microwave margarine and marshmallows at HIGH for 2 minutes in a microwave-safe mixing bowl. Stir to combine. Microwave at HIGH 1 minute longer. Add cereal. Stir until well coated. Press into pan as directed in Step 3.
