On Saturday, Apr. 2, more than 300 walkers and people using wheelchairs and scooters will participate in the first Springfield, IL 2011 Muscle Walk at White Oaks Mall. Following the MDA walk, families can visit the Easter Bunny in center court of the mall for photos and a free sample of PEEPSTERS®.

The MDA Muscle Walk is expected to raise more than $50,000 to help area residents with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle diseases served by the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Muscle Walk participants and Muscle Walk teams can register for the event by visiting www.joinmda.org/2011ilwalk; by contacting the local MDA office at 217-351-1853; or by registering at the event by arriving at least 30-minutes before the  Muscle Walk gets underway on Saturday, at 9am.

Individuals and teams are encouraged to raise at least $74 in donations, the cost to fund one minute of MDA research seeking treatments and cures for muscle diseases. Many teams will reach out to Facebook friends to raise thousands of dollars.

The Easter Bunny will greet guests and pose for photos with them at center court by the elevator inside mall, from 11-8 weekdays, 10-8 Saturdays and 11-6 Sundays.

This year, the iconic PEEPS® Brand will be the presenting sponsor for Easter Bunny photos. Children will be able to hold a large plush PEEPS® chick in their Easter Bunny photo, while the entire family will be able to enjoy a sample of the new PEEPS® PEEPSTERS®, a bite-size indulgence of milk chocolate with a delicious marshmallow-flavored crème center. The PEEPS® Brand is proud to be part of this traditional Easter event at Simon properties around the country.

While waiting to have their kids’ photos taken, parents will have the opportunity to make a contribution to the Save the Children program, which provides early education, literacy, physical activity, and nutrition programs to children in some of the most remote, struggling communities in rural America. Over $107,000 was contributed by generous shoppers at Simon malls for this worthwhile charity this past holiday season alone.
