If I Were in Charge of the World: by Vanessa age 11

Family_Vanessa_2014One of my favorite things during the summer is reading through the stash of school papers and deciding which ones to put in the Memory Box for years to come.  This poem made the Keeper pile and is now laminated and posted on my favorites wall at home. It will eventually make it in the box, but for now, it’s a great example of viewing the world through the eyes of our kids.   So, here’s one interesting and honest perspective from my 11 year-old daughter, Vanessa.

If I were in charge of the world

I’d cancel homework, nasty food,

Mondays and also Math.

If I were in charge of the world

There’d be dessert for dinner,

48 hour Sundays and

no spiders!

If I were in charge of the world

You wouldn’t have ants,

You wouldn’t have sleepiness

You wouldn’t have allergies,

Or tornados.

You wouldn’t even have squash.

If I were in charge of the world

All cars would be able to fly

All PG-13 movies would be G rated

And a person who sometimes forgets to do chores,

and sometimes rushes,

Would still be allowed to be in charge of the world.

We’d love to hear the perspective of your kids!  How would they answer the question:  If I were in charge of the world?  Please share their comment(s) and their first name and age!
