Get involved: Area thrift stores need your help!

A recent email from Kitty Boyce of The Kid’s Closet informed our readers that a new law effective February 10th would eliminate our ability to buy, sell or donate kids clothes and toys that do not have approved manufacturing tags or product safety testing labels as of February 10th.  I don’t know a family in our readership that does not like to save money or reduce and reuse by sharing their gently used clothing and toys with others.  We all do our best to make sure that any potentially dangerous toys, recalled toys or clothing are NOT put into that mix, but it appears that option will disappear in the near future.  There is an updated news story showing there is some positive movement Jan 7 LA Times update.  Check out the original story in this LA Times Story and read Kitty’s Blog entry here.  Kitty Boyce encourages area readers to “contact your congressmen, asking them to rescind the retroactive wording, to make an exception for items that met standards and were perfectly safe prior to the new law being passed.”  You can write or even better, email your local congressman and refer to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA.)
