U of I Extension Christian County Master Gardeners, in partnership with the Taylorville Main Street Association, will host the 2011 Christian County Garden Walk on Saturday, June 11, from 9 am to 5 pm.
This year the tour will have four gardens in Kincaid, one between Kincaid and Taylorville, and four more gardens in the Taylorville area. Our focus is to keep the gardens more localized for the convenience of the visitors to the area. This will also keep the traveling cost down, giving more time to visit each garden by shortening time on the road.
The participants' gardens will have everything from flowers to special features that compliment their landscapes. Special features include water gardens, vegetable gardens, butterfly gardens, herb gardens, some designed solely by their owners and some professionally designed. There will be a variety of everything for our visitors to see and enjoy. At each garden there will be a Master Gardener to help in answering questions and site managers to help the homeowners as well.
The Taylorville Main Street Association will also be hosting their Farmers Market with the Christian County Historical Society, which will also be on the tour holding their annual "Strawberry Social". The C.C. Historical Society has many small gardens on their property and some will be rededicated that day.
Tickets will be sold at various locations. For more information call the U of I Extension Christian County office at 217-287-7246. The cost is $8 prior to Saturday, June 11, and $10 the day of the Garden Walk.
