Saturday October 28 from 9:30-Noon FREE. A Springfield Moms Tradition! 

Halloween at the Market in Downtown Springfield (corner of 4th and Adams). Join Springfield Moms as we coordinate this popular and oh-so creative kids’ costume contest with our friends at the Old State Capitol Farmer’s Market!  PRIZES for 12 winners! Three winners per age groups are: 0-2, 3-6, and 8-12 and a Family Costume category! Registration from 9:30-11:00 contest starts at 11:00 sharp.  Click here for a schedule of FREE activities, visits from Princess Belle, Cinderella and entertainment from 10-11! 

Stay for the dogs’ costume contest at Noon. There’s plenty of Entertainment, free kid’s activities and of course fun strolling through the last market of the season!

  • October 30 Trick or Treat at Scheels  4pm-7pm Come dressed in your best costume and join Scheels for some Halloween fun! Trick or Treat Scavenger Hunt, Prizes, Candy and More!  Fun for the whole family! 
Other Places to wear your costume:
  • Oct 29 & 30th at Bomke’s Patch Bring your child out and Trick-or-Treat through Bomke’s 10-acre corn maze! Kids dressed in costume will get maze entry for $3 (regularly $5). Adults $3. A portion of the maze proceeds will go to benefit Family Services Center in Springfield. They specializes in providing foster care, community counseling and adoption services for Springfield and surrounding communities! Trick-or-Treat Maze Noon to 3pm

  • October 7: Boo Bark Party at the Park October 7 @ 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM Stuart Park, 1800 Winch Lane, Springfield. Join APL for howling good time at Springfield’s ONLY Halloween Party just for dogs!! Join us for a fun afternoon of: **Dog games and activities ** Dog costume contest at 1:30 with PRIZES and local celebrity judges including Jennifer Sullivan from Channel 20 and Deb West from 98.7 WNNS Entry fee is $2 per entry Best Over All Costume Most Funny Most Creative Best Pet/Owner Combo.   • October 14 -Halloween Pet Costume Contest 1 pm – 2 pm at Petco: Bring your costumed pet in to strut their stuff at our Halloween Pet Costume Contest. Dress up with your pet for bonus points! Plus get set with screaming deals like 30% Off Halloween Bootique Dog and Cat Costumes, Toys and Treats. 217-793-7387. At Petco, 2721 Veterans Parkway, Springfield.
  • October 21 – Trick-or-Treating at the Lincoln Home  Candy, Children’s Programs, Games, Costume Contest and more!!! 5:30-7:30 pm
  • October 20-22 Zoolie Ghoulie at Henson Robinson Zoo. Costume Contests on 6 pm on Oct. 20th at 4pm on Oct. 21st & 22nd  Details here.
  • October 21 Main Street Pumpkin Fest in downtown Jacksonville. A full day of family fun, including pumpkin decorating, hay rides, costume contests for kids and pets, pumpkin drops, food, petting zoo and Pumpkin Playland.   • October 21 Greatest Halloween Party Ever at Maddy’s Tavern, 228 S 1st St, Divernon. For adults. 7 pm – 2 am. Featuring Music, Costume Contest, Great Giveaways, Cash Prizes & More. Facebook event.
  • October 26: Best of Springfield Party for adults; sponsored by Illinois Times 5-9 pm at BOS Center, Springfield. The party has an 80’s throwback theme. Costumes are optional, but dress to impress in your best 80s fashions for a chance to win prizes in the costume contest.  Tickets $15 or $20 at the door. Read more here.
  • October 28:  Boo on the Boulevard in Williamsville costume contest for children ages 0-13, including groups. Registration at 4:00 p.m., costume parade at 4:30 p.m. and judging at 4:45 p.m.  First, second and third place prizes awarded by age group.
  • October 28-29: Hoogland’s Halloween Carnival noon to 4 pm with costume contests. Bigger and better than ever! Event post here.
  • Springfield Police and Fire Departments Annual Halloween Safety Event The Springfield Police and Fire Departments are welcoming families to their 4th annual Halloween Safety Event on the 28th at Fire Station #1, 825 East Capitol Avenue. Children are encouraged to come in costume for a fun evening of trick-or- treating and activities while learning about Halloween Safety.  Families can meet local police 

    officers and firefighters and have a chance to see various rescue vehicles up close. McGruff the Dog will also be present to meet families. This event is free to the community and for children pre-K through 5th grade.
