Uptown Station Dedication and Celebration Saturday, July 14!

The Children’s Discovery Museum gains a new neighbor with the opening of Uptown Station. They are so excited that they, along with Amtrak and the Zoo Lady, are marking the occasion on Saturday, July 14 with free outdoor activities!
The formal dedication of Uptown Station takes place at 10 a.m. Following the formal dedication and tours of Uptown Station, visitors will explore and enjoy the following activities directly outside of the Museum and in the Gateway Plaza:
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Children’s Discovery Museum will provide several free outdoor “Powerful” play experiences suitable for children of all ages. Concepts in renewable energy are made child-friendly and hands-on when you experience the Museum’s Wind Tubes and Wind Turbines. Younger visitors will enjoy making pinwheels and bubble play. Parents, bring your cameras, as you will find several unique and photo-worthy activities.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Enjoy free face painting with the one and only Zoo Lady!
11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Amtrak will offer free tours of its Amtrak Exhibit Train. This museum on wheels traveled the country in 2011 celebrating Amtrak’s 40th anniversary. Here is your chance to tour this special exhibit train with displays of photos, uniforms, fine china, and memorabilia from America’s Railroad? while also gaining a glimpse into the future.
In addition to its Exhibit Train, Amtrak is providing a ‘Chuggington Depot’ in the Gateway Plaza which features characters from Chuggington, the popular train-based television series for preschoolers. Fun, train-themed activities will include play tables with Chuggington die-cast trains, a photo opportunity, a coloring mural, a Chuggington story time, and more.
Half Price Admission to the Children’s Discovery Museum – Noon to 5 p.m.
Want to explore the Children’s Discovery Museum? July 14 is a great day to visit as we are offering half priced admission! Explore all the unique, hands-on exhibits for only $3 per person ages 2 and above. Members and children under the age of 2 are free.
Please note, the Museum will not open Saturday, July 14 until noon.
This event promises to be quite the celebration. Parking will be free all day long in the College Avenue and Uptown Station parking decks. Make a day of it and enjoy all the excitement of Uptown Normal!
