Doggie Couch Books presents a new tool for parents who want to work with their kids on how to be safe around dogs – pets or neighborhood dogs.
According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, close to five million people are bitten by dogs every year.
The goal of authors Jennifer Gladysz and Renee Payne is to give parents, teachers and dog trainers a tool to help children learn how to safely interact with dogs, both their own family pets and unfamiliar dogs they may encounter.
"Be A Dog's Best Friend" is written in the voice of 10-year-old Emma who takes her readers on a tour of all the dogs in her life, offering tips along the way of how best to approach new dogs, play with familiar dogs and steer clear of dogs unknown to her. Clear illustrations drawn by Keith Gladysz demonstrate the inviting and uninviting body language used by dogs as well as demonstrations of do's and don'ts.
