AIWO is a non profit organization of women of Indian origin and affiliation, based in Springfield, IL. The members are professionals, local business owners,home makers, academicians, City and state employees, who enjoy working together to give back to the community. It was started 20 years ago by Mrs Aruna Mathur who was the first president. She steered the organization for 18 years before handing over the mantle to the able hands of the current president Mrs. Rambha Chaudhry.
AIWO has supported organizations like the Boys and Girls club of Springfield, Family Service Center, Central Illinois Food bank,St. John’s Breadline and Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach, either through fundraising efforts or through donating time and energy.
Ronald McDonald House of Springfield has been the biggest beneficiary over the last eighteen years through their biannual India Night fundraisers. AIWO has donated more than $150,000 to Ronald McDonald House of Charities of Central Illinois, during this period.
