Hello. I am taking my 7 year old twin grandchildren on a train ride from Normal to Springfield on Oct. 27. I'm trying to find something fun for us to do for a few hours while there. Any suggestions for children with short attention spans!? Thank you.
Jane, the Illinois State Museum is a great choice. It's free and the kids will have fun on all three floors of the museum, but ESPECIALLY in the basement at the Play Museum. It's open from 9:30-4:00 on Saturdays. For more information, go to the A-Z Resource Index on this site, then click on "Museums."
From the train station, be sure to walk through the Farmer's Market on Adams street between 5th and 2nd streets. On the 27th there are all kinds of special events: http://springfieldmoms.org/annual-kids-costume-contest/
Have a great time, and please email us with photos of your trip!
